Building a Learning Community

I used a series called "This is Awesome" on my OPRF and Leyden Blogs to share the curricular, pedagogical or EdTech finds within the learning community...

“This is Awesome” with J.P. Coughlin: Socrative

Division: SPED History

The What: Teaching Strategy/Digital Resource/Technology Tool:   Socrative

The How: Usage
Students are taking tests and quizzes on Socrative.

The Why: Awesomeness

Using the Chromebooks, students are able to access all of our work from the week (requiring them to navigate our class website, their Google Drive, and study guides), which is super easy with the touchscreen and the simple navigation of the Chromebooks.

The Pitch: So What?!?

  • Test questions come up one at a time, are big and easy to read, and you can add images to your questions
  • Socrative grades multiple choice and True/False questions for you and sends you very detailed reports in usually under ten minutes
  • The feedback you get back is instant. It is similar to Mastery Manager feedback where it gives you whole class feedback on each question.
  • Since I teach classes where usually about half of the room is SPED students, and many of those students have accommodations of "No Scantron," scantron tests have never been an option for me.
  • If you want to give the students their test back, you can simply email them a PDF of their answer sheet which also contains the correct answer.
  • It is pretty awesome to have a paperless environment for these tests.
